Glass Ceramics Use with 3D Printers
3D printing has far come along in the technology of growth, from simple metal features all the way to plastics. However, a company called Tethon Corporation has produced a new material made of resin. This resin material turns into a smooth transparent overlay material after using a 3D printer. The knowledge of this printing has been discovered by thousands; however, using the innovative design of ceramic glass with printing has taken it to a new level. The use of this material can be found on jewelry and even medicine.
Ceramic Glass Material Has the Ability to Have Volume Change
In addition, Tethon Corporation wants to see its use for additional machines. Since the ceramic glass in non-conductive and has a shock resistance, it gives it the ability to be sculpted on a variety of products. They state that the material is limitless with its construct. In addition to its limitless capability, the ceramic glass material has the ability to have volume change, which allows a variety of uses on the 3D printers scale. According to a few different research studies, they compiled that the material could be made into large cubes as well as small moveable structures, allowing manipulation of the material to be widely constructed. To top that off, the glass-ceramic material can withstand temperatures of high heats, therefore can withstand the ability to shrink.
Making a Stronger and More Durable Cup
When using a ceramic glass material with 3D printers the material first comes in a powder form. Then the printer slowly but efficiently takes the powder and builds the model, let’s say a cup, from the bottom up. Once the cup model is formed, then it is placed into an oven where it can do the drying process. However, at this point, the cup is still in a delicate state. Once the cup is dried, then the additional power left over on the cup is removed with caution. The cup needs to be reinforced and is placed in a firing oven. The cup is removed then placed into the glazing process
However, at this point, the cup is still not complete. It will need to go through another firing stage, so it is placed back in the oven to finalize the support of the cup. After that is complete the final glazing coat is put on the cup and dried. Because of the use of the 3D printer and the ceramic glass material, it allows a stronger and more durable cup that can be manufactured at a faster speed. To top that off, the material allows the cup to be placed in a hotter environment that could damage other used materials. By using ceramic glass powered with the 3D printer, the molds are unlimited.
